Heating failure is the most common cause of home emergencies, accounting for 40% of calls about home emergencies, revealed research by internet and telephone insurer esure.
The research also revealed that 34% of household claims were for plumbing and drainage problems, making them the second most common type of home emergency. Problems with home security accounted for 10% of claims on esure's Home Assistance policy.
The company estimated that 624,000 households could expect to suffer a domestic emergency this winter. Esure is advising homeowners to take our home emergency insurance to protect themselves form unexpected bills in the event of an emergency.
