Latest ruling will make it difficult for Names to raise fresh claims against Lloyds.

The High Court has granted civil restraint orders number of members of Lloyd's preventing them, without first obtaining the permission of the court, from bringing further legal action relating to their underwriting at Lloyd's.

Lloyd’s welcomed the ruling, which it said would make it “extremely difficult” for Names to raise fresh claims against it.

Lloyd's General Counsel Sean McGovern said: “Lloyd's welcomes the decision which should prevent Lloyd's and the court wasting further time and expense in dealing with these hopeless cases."

A spokesman added that Lloyd’s hopes that the Names’ outstanding application to the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal the strike out of the Reinsurance to Close (RITC) claim will be dismissed in the next couple of months.
