Higher-skilled, higher-paid jobs will follow the flood of call centre and back office positions going to India over the next five years, according to financial services consultancy Troika.

The consultancy's research suggests that 10-15,000 higher-paid jobs will go to offshore locations over the next five years.

Andrew Stewart, managing director of Troika, said: “So far, the majority of offshoring has been back office functions and call centres.

"Now, more complex and higher-paid jobs are starting to be offshored as well; finance, research, HR, marketing, actuarial and underwriting. For instance, it's considerably easier and cheaper to retrain Indian doctors to be medical underwriters than recruit, train and retain UK underwriters.”
