Holidaymakers are being urged to beware small print in travel insurance policies which could significantly reduce claim payouts.

Financial products research company, TRD, has issued a warning to travellers to check their policies for restrictive conditions.

TRD's latest research found that over 20% of the policies examined contained a `receipts for goods' clause which it says represents a pitfall for policyholders. Ebookers travel policy for example replaces items worth over £50 only if receipts are provided.

Group Commercial Director of TRD, Mark Hayes-Newington said: "This use of small print by insurers can often result in a nasty shock to customers when making a claim. Very few people keep receipts for everything they buy in life!"
