Glasgow-based consultancy, Human Factors Analysts, has launched a traffic accident investigation service in a strengthening of its existing investigation division.

The new service will be aimed at insurance companies and legal organisations, and will assist them in establishing how and why collisions occur, said the company.

Human Factors Analysts specialises in studying human performance and the reduction of human error. Its accident investigation team, headed by Donald Lockhart, was created in September 2000.

Lockhart said: "Very often the information contained in written reports does not always provide an accurate picture of what actually took place and the information recorded in interviews can sometimes equally omit vital information."

He said the new service was unique in combining accident investigation with a team devoted to analysing human factors.
