Information technology staff at Independent Insurance's Cheadle offices have already been informed of some redundances, the Financial Times (FT) reported this morning.
The FT said that 190 of Independent's 250 IT staff will be made redundant shortly, with another 30 expected to be laid off later this year.
One Independent employee told the FT that up to 120 regional staff had also been made redundant.
Liquidator Pricewaterhousecoopers is expected to help some redundant employees find new jobs.
