Clarkson concedes that Lomas knew little about concerns over reserving until May 2000

A witness for the prosecution has conceded that Dennis Lomas, former Independent finance director, only became aware of concerns about levels of reserving in May 2000.

Lomas’ defence counsel, Mukel Chawla QC, showed the court documents which he said proved this point.

At one stage during Chawla’s questioning of Clarkson, Judge Rivlin said: “Allright Mr Chawla, you’ve made your point. It’s all very speculative. We’ll have to wait for further evidence to come out.”

The witness agreed that the court documents suggested that Lomas had not been in receipt of figures that showed problems with over reserving until May 26 2000.

A tired looking Clarkson said: “Based on the documents we [the court] have seen I would have to agree.”
