Carpet beetles and book lice are increasingly causing damage to documents kept in storage, revealed disaster recovery firm Document SOS.

Book lice can cause considerable damage to paper documents. They thrive in damp warm and undisturbed areas, especially during spring and summer.

Georgine Thorburn, managing director of Document SOS, said: "Over the long term these insects cause considerable damage. The best way to prevent infestation is to keep the environment dry, ideally below 50% humidity and the temperate below 75ºC."

Books and papers should be stored off the floor and well ventilated to avoid insect damage, said Doument SOS.
