Warranty Direct to avoid using Royal Mail by sending business electronically

A Reading based automotive insurance company is pioneering the use of a newly developed digital authentication service to free it from the hands of Royal Mail and help create an entirely paperless business.

Warranty Direct found itself exposed during the recent strike and was keen to find an alternative method of safely and effectively communicating with clients electronically.

To date a key problem with e-mail and the internet has been a distrust of digitally held documents in that they are inherently malleable and do not constitute a legally acceptable ‘durable’ medium. But with the help of Codel this problem has been solved, paving the way to a revolution in the way in which companies conduct business.

Codel is an independent third party service that proves the authenticity of digital data by creating fingerprints - ‘Codelmarks’ - of electronic files which Codel then stores indefinitely on its own database. Recipients of data or communications can check with Codel that the data has not changed. Warranty Direct will Codelmark all of its key documents, including proposals and other on-line forms, thus allowing them to conduct business electronically while conforming to FSA standards.

Warranty Direct’s chairman, Duncan McClure Fisher said: “This is a perfect solution for us. Codel enables us to move away from what is proving a costly and unreliable means of doing business to one that is fast, efficient and absolutely risk free. By Codelmarking information contained within our transactions we can demonstrate that in every key respect that information is properly authenticated and verifiable. It will lead to huge cost savings, is environmentally friendly and provides that vital element, customer confidence. This is the future.”

Codel’s founder and chief executive, James Zorab, added: “The ‘paperless’ office environment has been mooted for nearly two decades but in practice the use of paper has escalated four fold since the arrival of the personal computer. Codel will change all of this. I am really excited about our collaboration with Warranty Direct. They have the vision to embrace technology that will improve their performance while benefiting both their customers and the environment – we look forward to working with them.”
