Appeal set to be lodged 'within days'

Four insurers have agreed to appeal the Scottish courts decision to uphold the Damages (Asbestos-related Conditions) (Scotland) Bill, and will confirm their plans within the next 24 hours, Insurance Times can reveal.

A judicial review brought by AXA, Aviva, RSA and Zurich challenging the Bill - which overturned a House of Lords ruling in 2007 that found plaques to be asymptomatic and non-compensable – was thrown out by Lord Emslie in the Court of Sessions last week.

The ABI confirmed it would be making an official announcement tomorrow (Thursday).

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
