Insurers have said it is still too early to assess the cost of the damage caused by flooding in Scotland.

Heavy rain and flooding has wreaked havoc in Scotland and the north of England over the last 24 hours. Transport services have been disrupted and many major roads have become impassable.

There have been seven flood warnings in the north of England over the last 24 hours on the rivers Coquet, North Tyne, Ouse and Tyne, while the Scottish Environment Agency issued flood warnings for 14 areas.

The main east and west coast rail lines were closed in parts, causing widespread disruption.
