The FTSE has recovered some of the week's losses on the back of a surge in financial stocks.

Investors are taking the opportunity to buy into the sector, after several days of poor performances on the benchmark index.

The FTSE 100 index has added 1.5% and is currently at 3535 points to its highest level of the week.

Insurers have surged upwards, with Legal and General up 3.3% and Prudential up 2.2%.

AXA is up 6.9% to 11.67, Royal & SunAlliance is up 3.3% while Allianz has risen by 4.3% in early trading.
