It took a ring-in Pakistani test player to knock Dickson Manchester's (DM) team out of the MCC Corporate Cricket Challenge at Lords recently.

DM's team, which included QBE's aptly named Ian Bowler, Woodruff's John Cross, Trenwick's Russell Newell and Steve Pratt of Bedford Insurance Brokers, acquitted themselves and the professional indemnity market very well in reaching the semi-final.

DM staffers Andrew Coleman and Chris White put in the second and third-fastest balls respectively, at 74mph and 73mph.

“We had to beat real pros such as Mike Gatting and John Emburey [to get to the semis],” DM sales and marketing manager Andrew Macpherson said.

“We only lost to a Daily Telegraph side reinforced by a Pakistani test player.”
