Bristol-based Lawclub Legal Protection has added cover for the costs of mediation with neighbours to its Family Protect Policy.

Bristol-based Lawclub Legal Protection, a division of Cornhill Insurance, has added cover for the costs of mediation with neighbours to its Family Protect Policy.

The extra service comes as a result of proposed changes to the law to deal with noisy neighbours. The changes will make it easier for local councils to prosecute noisy neighbours as well as hand out on-the-spot fines and confiscate stereo systems, television sets and DIY tools.

Lawclub Legal Protection marketing manager Steve Skeldon said the service offered an alternative way of resolving disputes and reducing stress.

"The result is that a settlement can be reached more quickly, in a way that is acceptable to both sides, which helps to preserve ongoing relations ships.

"Settlement can include elements which would not form part of any court judgement, such as an apology, which is especially important when the parties have to carry on living alongside each other," he said.

Lawclub Legal Protection said the problem of noisy neighbours was widespread: figures from the Environment Agency showed that one in four households complain about noise in their area.
