UK friendly society Liverpool Victoria is to give its home contents insurance policyholders a minimum of £12,500 extra cover, on top of normal policy limits.

The move is an attempt to provide further peace of mind over Christmas, when many families have expensive purchases in their houses as Christmas presents.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) reported that last December insurers paid out claims for 38,000 domestic burglaries, 160,000 cooking accidents and 80,000 DIY accidents.

The extra protection runs from 15 December 2001 to 15 January 2002.

Liverpool Victoria's head of customer assistance David Stevens said: "The value of Christmas gifts is growing each year, especially with expensive electrical equipment at the top of many people's Christmas lists.

Everyone should check if their cover is comprehensive and offers sufficient levels of additional cover over Christmas."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
