Lloyd's estimated its losses attributed to the Hurricane Katrina disaster at £1.40 billion.
However, Lloyd's is confident that it would be able to cope with covering its losses because of the models it has in place for major catastrophes.
It was reported that Lloyd's said the effects on the Central Fund would be immaterial and there was nothing to suggest that any syndicate would not be able to trade forwards as a direct result of the disaster.
An analysis of 44 managing agents was used to calculate the estimate.
