And married people behave better on the road
London has the safest drivers according to research from Aviva.
Based on data collected from the insurer’s telematics offering, Aviva Drive app, the capital topped the list of safe drivers, while Buckinghamshire was bottom of the table.

Lancashire | Aberdeenshire |
Cornwall | Bedfordshire |
Staffordshire | Leicestershire |
Midlothian | Lincolnshire |
Cumbria | Merseyside |
West Yorkshire | Essex |
South Glamorgan | Wiltshire |
Aviva director of marketing Heather Smith said: “Although it’s fun to look at different regions’ driving scores, our results clearly show that the UK is a nation of safe drivers. The average score by all users of the Aviva Drive app was more than 6 out of a possible 10, meaning most drivers qualified for a discount on their premium.
“In fact, three out of four drivers who completed the app qualified for some form of discount, and 31% of drivers qualified for the maximum 20% discount.”
The research also revealed that age still has an important part to play on assessing a driver’s risk, with those aged 60–69 receiving the best score for their driving style. Aviva also discovered that married individuals received safer driving scores than their single counterparts, although interestingly it could discern no difference between males and females.
