Bad weather continues to dog Britain and its insurance industry this month.
Although the UK has managed to avoid massive flooding of last year, storms and snow have sent claims soaring, according to loss adjusters.
Last night saw gale force winds sweep the country with the south coast bearing the brunt of the storms. This followed a weekend of gales and snow.
GAB Robins said: "The last few weeks has seen severe weather conditions with gusts of 70-80mph particularly in Scotland and the North-West. As a result there has been a significantly higher volume of storm related claims particularly in the personal lines sector. Additional resources have been drafted into the worst affected areas to focus on storm claims and to ensure that emergency repairs are carried out urgently. We have not had to implement our Disaster Plan although we are continuing to monitor the situation.
"Sergon BRM, our building repair network, has received an increased number of claims and anticipate that numbers will grow following the damage caused at the weekend."
