Marks & Spencer has become the first high street retailer to offer lifetime cover for pets.
The financial services arm of the high street retailer has launched a pet insurance product for cats and dogs.
M&S hopes that it can capitalise on the 17% of M&S customers who own pets, and build upon the 11% of British people who currently take out pet insurance.
Head of general insurance Peter Longstaff said: "We are offering our customers an easy to understand pet insurance policy at a competitive price.
"We are making it easy for our customers to protect their pets."
The policy will cover pets for up to £6,000 veterinary fees, emergency kennels and reimbursement if a holiday is cancelled due to an ill pet.
