Markerstudy has emerged as a frontrunner to buy Brit-owned telebroker People's Choice.

A source close to the deal said that People's Choice would be meeting with Markerstudy over the summer to discuss a potential sale.

The source added that a number of UK personal lines firms have also registered an interest in the company.

Brit refused to comment on speculation surrounding potential bidders, issuing the following statement: "David Pearce, formerly chief executive and latterly chairman of People's Choice, has left the group by mutual consent.

"People's Choice recently recruited Brent Escott to fill the CEO slot.

"As part of Brent's mandate he has been asked to review Brit's strategic options concerning People's Choice.

"Several opportunities exist for People's Choice, particularly following the recent sale of Churchill by Credit Suisse.

"Brit intends to fully explore these."
