Marsh has won the insurance consulting and risk management services contract for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

Marsh's services will be provided in collaboration with broker China Sports.

Patrick Vajda, head of Marsh's global events practice and a senior leader in the firm's sports, entertainment and media practice, said:

"We are honoured to be selected by the organising committee for this prestigious global event."

China plans to spend 320bn yuan (£21bn) on its infrastructure in preparation for the Games, according to the Xinhua state news agency. Most of the money will be used to update Beijing's transport links.

Beijing will also modernise roads, invest in power and water utilities and upgrade communication systems.
