Marsh & McLennan has refused to comment on reports that it plans to announce a further 7,000 job losses globally next week.

In a report in The Independent newspaper, Marsh is expected to make these redundancies in reaction to the loss of income since cancelling its contingent commission business since the Spitzer investigation.

In November last year, the company announced 3,000 job losses globally, with around 300 in the UK. The company has to pay a $850m settlement over four years and may have to pay further settlements to other Us states who have made claims similar to New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer.
