The Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS) should not take a more commercial role in the personal injury market, said its chairman in a speech to the 2003 MASS Annual Conference.
Ian Shovlin said the main objective of MASS should remain "bringing justice to the victims of road accidents".
Shovlin said following the demise of The Accident Group, some MASS member had urged the society to take a more active role and generate claims.
In his chairman's address Shovlin said: "The MASS mission statement does not lie easily with attracting business for members and we do not have the experience, infra-structure or finance to act as a claims management company."
"Any move towards MASS becoming a commercial body would result in the loss of the benefit and profile that MASS has as a representative body in the insurance and legal worlds."
