Mastek launches 5000 seat operations in India aimed at UK insurance market...

Mastek, a software and applications developer, has launched a 5000-seat operations centre in Chennai, India which will serve the company's clients in the UK and global insurance markets.

More than £35m will be invested in the new centre, which will be the company's tenth and largest facility. The first stage of the development is expected to be ready in 2008 with the recruitment of 1100 software professionals. The entire development is set to be complete in three additional phases, over the next five years.

The company also said it is building a centre of excellence at the recently launched Chennai facility to acquire competencies in mainframe technology, which provides massive storage capacity, and improves data security and flexibility in the client/server design.

Sudhakar Ram, chairman and chief executive of Mastek, commented: “Chennai has an enormous talent pool and we want to tap into this by offering an attractive proposition for professionals to work on complex projects, building competencies in mainframe technology. The additional capacity will enhance our ability to cater to our clients in the UK and globally, particularly in insurance, but also in the financial services and government sectors.”
