Nearly the whole of Mauritius was deprived of electricity on Tuesday after intense winds from tropical cyclone Dina felled power lines.
Throughout Tuesday, businesses and government offices remained closed as residents remained on an "alert four", the top storm warning.
The storm, with winds of 206kph, caused flooding and came close to the island early on Tuesday. However, its centre eventually brushed past.
Mauritius will start to assess the significant damages caused by Dina in a special cabinet session, to be held on Wednesday.
