Max Re Ltd, a subsidiary of Max Re, is to form a dedicated aviation insurance unit.

The news comes as Hardy Underwriting, the Lloyd's insurer and reinsurer reported a drop in profits and said the key area of difficulty continues to be aviation.

Hardy predicted further rate reductions for the final quarter airline book renewal, blaming the influx of new entrants to the sector.

Max Re said the division, which will operate from the company's Dublin offices, would be led by Olivier Marre who was recently general manager of underwriting, accounting and claims for La Réunion Aérienne.

Robert Cooney, chairman, president and CEO, said: "Aviation reinsurance has been a core business of Max Re for four years and we are pleased to now offer aviation insurance as a complementary product line."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
