Royal & SunAlliance's attractiveness as a takeover target has grown after stock market speculation pushed its share price to a recent high.
RSA's share price surged to 471.5p on Tuesday on the back of reports that Zurich Financial Services was planning to acquire the giant British insurer. It later fell back 31.5p to 440p.
RSA refused to comment on what it termed "market speculation".
