Two of Birmingham's oldest established law firms have merged to form Putsman.wlc, one of the largest insurance and personal injury legal teams in the Midlands.
Two of Birmingham's oldest established law firms, Putsmans and Wilcox Lane Clutterbuck, have merged to form Putsman.wlc, one of the largest insurance and personal injury legal teams in the Midlands.
The new firm has an annual turnover of approximately £10m per year and an insurance and PI team of 70 people including seven partners. Together, the team will cover employers' liability, public liability, professional indemnity, motor, disease, aviation, marine and cost work.
Putsman.wlc said the merger allowed it to offer its expertise, as professional advisors and solicitors, to insurance companies more cheaply.
Putsman.wlc managing partner and head of personal injury Julia Holden said: "We don't look at ourselves as a firm of solicitors that is there solely to do legal work for insurers.
"We actively focus on ways to save them money, and our increase in size has helped by allowing us to buy expert services at a lower cost base.
"We run both claimant and defendant insurance departments, and we are therefore in a unique position to advise in relation to costs overall."
The new company said it expected to handle at least 10,000 files in the next twelve months, "with a projected cost saving to insurers of over £4m".
