The Motor Insurer's Bureau (MIB) said it has seen claims against uninsured motorists stabilise for the first time in recent years.

It said the number of new claims, currently averaging around 3,100 a month, had not increased significantly over the past 12 months.

It said the stabilisation, plus a reduction in operating costs meant the MIB is to give each of its contributing insurers an increased refund (from £25m to £55m), and is also to ask for less money to fund future cases (from £290m to £275m).
