The commercial vehicle and motorcycle sectors experienced the most significant growth in full cycle EDI trading during 2003, said Misys.

Misys said brokers using its EDI system completed more than 2.7 million transactions throughout 2003, with the figure projected to reach more than three million during 2004.

The motor and household sectors also showed significant growth in EDI trading among its brokers, said Misys.

Misys Financial System's head of insurance services, Helen Barker, said: "Our continued investment is a direct response to market demand for EDI enabled products and a greater understanding amongst brokers of the efficiencies that can be achieved by trading electronically.

"Insurers have also shown increased commitment to EDI development, with several having completely removed all manual products."

Barker said she had no doubt the number of EDI transactions would continue to grow during 2004.
