Marsh & McLennan (MMC) has revealed that it is under threat of a civil claim from another US state attorney general.

MMC was warned that if it failed to resolve an investigation related to the allegations brought last year by New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer before 13 September, a civil claim would be filed against the company.

The disclosure was made in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, in which MMC also said it has recently been contacted by other state authorities indicating they may seek additional monetary or other remedies from the company in connection with the fraud and bid-rigging allegations Spitzer bought against MMC broker Marsh last October.

MMC has said that the company continues to cooperate with all pending inquiries.

The 8-K filing was made in connection with MMC's commencement of an offering of $1bn of senior notes. MMC said it intends to use the proceeds to repay a portion of its outstanding bank borrowings.
