The US National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has said that US insurers will be able to cope with the costs of the losses caused by the terrorist attacks on Tuesday.

"Policyholders can rest assured knowing that the insurance industry in the United States is an $850bn industry with assets of over $3tn. We have every confidence companies have the financial ability to keep the promises they've made to their policyholders in this instance," said NAIC Vice President Catherine J Weatherford.
