Vehicle rental organisation National Car Rental has developed what it claims is the car rental industry's first fully-automated insurance claims system.

Known as Aclaim, the new system is designed to speed up the reporting of claims to customers and streamline the administration process.

National said the Aclaim system was fully integrated with its rental systems so that information about the rental such as mileage, rental dates and customer would be automatically captured within the system. Customers could be notified of the damage within 48 hours of a car being returned to the branch, said the company..

The system automatically allocates the case to a claims adjuster dependent on insurance type, skill set and customer account.

Dean Mugglestone, insurance and risk manager for National said: “This has been a major development for us. We handle over 120,000 vehicle damage claims a year and have seen a dramatic improvement in the speed of claims handled, from raising the initial invoice to recovering the claim."
