Zurich Municipal has appointed Steve Jackson to the newly created role of national fraud controller, in a move to stamp out public sector fraud.

The insurer said it created the role to bring cohesion to the measures it was already undertaking on a regional basis and to capitalise on partnerships that have developed to address the national problem of managing fraud.

Prior to his appointment, Jackson worked for both Capita Insurance Services and Cunningham Lindsey as a special investigator.

Before moving into the role of investigating potentially fraudulent insurance claims, he spent twenty years as an officer within the traffic department for Lancashire Constabulary. Jackson is currently completing an MA in fraud management at the University of Teesside.

Jackson said he would be aiming to encourage genuine claimants to deal directly with Zurich Municipal rather than going through claims management firms.
