David Hope has been appointed president of Navigators' marine & energy division. Until March 2001, Hope was the active underwriter for Markel's syndicate 1009.
He will be responsible for Navigators' marine and energy business worldwide.
Chief operating officer of Navigators Stan Galanski said: "David's strong technical underwriting skills, business acumen and demonstrated leadership will further enhance our strong marine franchise."
He added: "The fact that he will be based in London reflects our commitment to the London market."
