AIRMIC (Association of Insurance and Risk Managers) chairman David Ireland is urging risk managers to pursue excellence in their work during this year.

He has chosen `The Pursuit of Excellence' as his official theme for his year in office (2002 - 2003).

Ireland said: "This is an important time for risk management as a profession and for all professionals involved in managing risk.

"The events of September 11 last year threw a spotlight on the profession and increased demands on risk managers. Now as we move closer to the anniversary of that tragedy, we need to be able to demonstrate that we can meet those demands and provide risk management answers for businesses to continue to operate successfully in the future. We can only achieve this if we aim for excellence in all we do."

He is group insurance director of VINCI plc and has been an AIRMIC council member since 1999.

Ireland begins his year in office this week at the AIRMIC conference in Birmingham.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
