A new group has been established for marine claims practitioners in the London market. The Joint Marine Claims Committee (JMCC) will be a forum for the discussion of market issues and promote best practice in insurance and reinsurance claims.

It is hoped the new committee will streamline the process of debate between the Lloyd's and company markets and better represent the interests of the marine claims community.

It will be formed of marine claims adjusters from the member companies of both the International Underwriting Association and the Lloyd's Market Association (LMA).

The JMCC is a result of the merger of the existing Joint Claims Committee and the LMA Marine Claims Committee. In recent months the activities of these two committees have converged and a new joint group was proposed to better promote the international profile of the claims sector in the London marine market.

Phil Cornick, chairman of the new committee and head of claims, London market division at Brit, said: "There has been overwhelming support across the market for the creation of this new committee representing both the Lloyd's and company markets.

"It makes even more sense with the continuing development of new back office processes which mean that the London claims community will increasingly be operating under common systems and standards."
