A new tropical storm is approaching the Gulf of Mexico. The storm, named Wilma, was upgraded from a tropical depression over the northwestern Caribbean sea and is continuing to gather strength.

Wilma is expected to become a category 2 within 93 hours and according to Sucden analyst Sam Tilley, "could move into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico by the end of the week".

Not all US refineries in the Gulf of Mexico region, which bore the brunt of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in August and September, have yet resumed operations.
