A new technology platform, jointly developed by Capita with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, has been introduced to deliver Abbey National's general insurance business.

Consumer Direct, an e-enabled outsourced processing service, has been designed specifically for distributors of personal lines insurance. It allows multi-channel access and the ability to support a pool of risk carriers.

Bill Paton, Business Director, Capita Insurance Services, said: "Given its scale and complexity, this is an ambitious outsourcing model, but the technology platform combined with the strong, open partnership established between Capita and Abbey National have underpinned its success.

"As margins continue to be squeezed, outsourcing-led business models such as this will play an important role in shaping the financial services industry, allowing non-traditional providers to establish a strong foothold
in a crowded market with minimum resources and risk."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
