Ryan Eckhard, class underwriter for marine XL at Antares Global

Largely because I am grateful for the opportunities provided to me in my 12 years in the insurance industry.

As a broker, I jumped straight into managing day-to-day client relationships, influencing purchasing strategies and working in international markets across the globe.

At Antares, I now oversee a substantial global book of business and a team of six.

These are opportunities I have taken advantage of to develop my expertise and this entry enables me to share not only my own journey but also the fantastic opportunities the industry has to offer young entrants to the market.

2. What makes your entry stand out, and why should you win the award?

I think it’s the great responsibility that I’ve held and successfully managed at times of real transition. As a broker, I often stepped into leadership roles in these times, including when senior colleagues retired unexpectedly and left a gap in experience and expertise that needed to be filled.

At Antares, when the previous class underwriter for marine XL resigned just before the critical January renewals period, I took on full management of the team and the book, leading the portfolio to a successful year.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning this award would be a meaningful recognition of my journey in the industry, reflecting both my personal growth and the value of investing in talent development.

Developing the next generation of industry leaders is at the heart of Antares’ ethos and this award reinforces the firm’s culture of nurturing ambition, resilience and innovation.

I look forward to giving back to the industry through my continued commitment to mentoring others and driving excellence in my team.
