David Sedgley, chief commercial officer at Konsileo, explains why his firm should succeed in the Commercial Broker of the Year category at 2025’s Insurance Times Awards
1. Why did you decide to enter the Commercial Lines Broker of the Year category?
We entered because we care deeply about creating a better experience – for both clients and the brokers that support them every day.
Konsileo was built around a simple idea – if we create the right environment for people to thrive, then brilliant client outcomes will follow. That means developing an environment based on trust, collaboration rather than competition, access to great tools and support and the freedom to build long-term relationships.

This year we’ve seen that approach continue to evolve, with record growth, strong retention and brokers telling us they feel able to do their best work. Entering this award is a chance to recognise that progress and the people making it happen.
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why do you think your firm should win this award?
Our entry stands out because it is not based on theory – it is real evidence that a different approach to running an advised commercial brokerage can thrive.
We have built a proprietary platform that enables genuine collaboration rather than enforcing hierarchy. Our peer-to-peer, artificial intelligence supported file review process has reduced compliance errors by 36% while turning regulation into shared learning.
Our onboarding model has delivered 100% retention and a net promoter score of 90. We are not just growing quickly – we are growing with professionalism and culture at our core.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
Building what we have in the way we’ve chosen has not been the easy route.
The roundabouts and traffic lights metaphor resonates strongly with us, in terms of trusting people to navigate with judgement rather than waiting for instructions – supported by simple rules that keep us aligned without unnecessary bureaucracy.
Choosing trust and collaboration over rigid control has taken belief, resilience and shared responsibility from everyone in the business – brokers and central team alike.
Winning this award would recognise that collective effort, validate everyone who chose to help build something different and shine a light on a model we hope contributes positively to the future of broking.
