‘I am so grateful for everything the insurance industry has given me,’ says retiree

Terry Dyson, managing director of HSB’s engineering insurance business in the UK and Ireland, has announced his retirement from the insurance industry.

Dyson’s 40 year career began in 1986 when he joined the National Vulcan Engineering Insurance Group – previously part of Sun Alliance Group – and since then he has undertaken an eclectic set of senior roles, ranging from front-line sales to strategic leadership.

After 17 years at the National Vulcan Engineering Insurance Group, Dyson then spent 16 years at RSA, before a brief stint at Travelers Europe.

Dyson joined HSB in 2019, being promoted to commercial director in 2022 where he led the sales, business development, partnerships and operational teams. In 2024 he was again promoted to managing director of HSB’s engineering insurance business.

Dyson will leave the firm at the end of March 2026 and HSB’s chief executive, Andrew Burke, has announced that the search for Dyson’s successor has commenced.

The process will consider both internal and external candidates.

Burke added: “Dyson has worked in the insurance industry for 40 years, six of those with HSB UK and Ireland, and will be missed.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with Dyson and his team to continue our momentum going into 2026.”

Grateful for everything

Reflecting on his departure, Dyson said: “I am so grateful for everything the insurance industry has given me. I’m also proud of the difference I’ve made and the success I’ve been able to deliver throughout my career.

“I’d particularly like to thank the many people who have helped me, mentored me and supported me along the way.

“I’ll be ensuring a smooth transition between now and the end of March, before moving to the touchline as HSB’s biggest supporter and advocate as they realise their exciting future plans.”
