The Broker Investment Group-owned (TBIG) Mark Richard Insurance has acquired a 75% stake in Cheshire-based Portal Broking Group, marking its sixth deal of 2025.

Mark Richard is a south west regional broker controlling £12.5m GWP. This latest deal increasing its GWP to £14.5m, with Mark Richard targeting over £20m GWP by the end of 2028.

Established in June 2022, the Portal Broking Group is a £2m GWP commercial insurance specialist with an expertise in sports club insurance.

Dave Clapp, chief executive at TBIG, said: “Portal Broking Group is a fantastic business and Jason Munnelly, Janet Munnelly and Louise Graham are people I know well and hugely respect. They truly understand commercial broking and partnering with Mark Richard was an easy decision for us.

”This marks our sixth deal of 2025 and we’re delighted to welcome the Portal team on board as we continue to back high-quality regional brokers.”

Growth journey

Portal Broking Group will continue to be led by managing director Jason Munnelly.

The full team of three will remain in place as they pursue growth plans with the support of both Mark Richard Insurance and TBIG.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
