Broker-only insurer NIG is to include protection for all machinery and equipment at the policyholder's premises within its motor trade, office and retailer policies from September 2003.
Cover will not need to be extended and no additional premiums will be charged.
The company, which is part of the Churchill group, said that until now, policies had not automatically included breakdown cover for machinery and that the identification of terms for such cover could leave room for errors or omissions.
Charles Earle, the managing director of NIG's commercial division, said the change reflected the growing dependence of organisations on their machinery, computers and other high-tech equipment.
