Devitt is launching a new motorcycle rescue scheme offering two levels of cover and travel insurance at the London Motorcycle & Scooter show this week.

The first level, Kerbside Assist, provides roadside and local recovery from £29 a year.

A step up, Door-to-Door, offers additional benefits, such as national recovery, medical assistance, home start and European cover from £49 a year. A “six-wheel option” is available for motorcylists who also want cover for their car.

Devitt will also announce a new travel insurance policy, designed specifically for bikers who regularly travel overseas with their machine.

The travel cover will be offered as an add-on to a standard motorcycle policy and will provide European motorcycle breakdown cover, together with a range of personal travel benefits in one scheme.

Cover can be taken out annually or arranged for a single trip. Benefits include £5m medical expenses, £2m public liability, loss of passport or luggage and cancellation cover.

Average cover for two people travelling through Europe for two weeks, including breakdown cover, would cost about £65.

“Traditional holiday insurance policies have a maximum single article limit of around £250, which is usually insufficient for bikers' needs when the cost of leather, boots and helmets could be as much as £1,000,” said sales and marketing director Rob Smith.

Devitt call centre staff will be manning the stand at the London show where they will give a £10 discount on the premium quoted to anyone who buys the motorcycle cover during the show.

Visitors will also be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win a Yamaha Y50 Neos moped and a year's free insurance cover.
