A lack of broadband access in the North of Scotland is holding back businesses, according to a Scottish insurer.

This criticism is aimed at the Scottish Executive and its agencies and comes from Hugh Robertson, chairman and managing director of the Aberdeenshire-based H&R Insurance Group.

This group announced a turnover in excess of £20m with target revenues of £50m within the next five years.

However, Robertson says this assumes that his company is able to communicate rapidly and efficiently with the tens of thousands of new customers he is confident of winning.

He said: "We have an infrastructure, which is quite unique in the UK, but without the benefit of a quicker information access, our growth is likely to be constrained and we may be unable to tap an extraordinarily lucrative market."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
