Norwich Union (NU) chief executive Simon Machell has confirmed that the company will stop transferring call centre jobs to India, according to reports.

In an interview in the Mail on Sunday's Financial Mail section, Machell said that NU had no plans to raise its number of India call centre employees from current levels.

At the end of January the insurer confirmed that it had moved 150 call centre jobs back to the UK, but a spokeswoman reiterated at the time the group's commitment to the region, stating that: "We have announced that we will have around 7,800 roles in India by the end of 2007 and we are on target to achieve this number.”

In the interview, Machell was keen to point out that there was no real difference in overall client satisfaction levels between calls dealt with by UK call centres and those located in India.
