The investigation into Equitable Life is to be reopened by the Parliamentary Ombudsman Ann Abraham.
The new investigation will focus on the role of regulators. Her original investigation had focused on the period between 1999 and 2001, but found no fault with the regulators.
Equitable policyholders and MPs had called for Abraham's investigation to be re-opened, as they believed it offered the best chance of compensation.
