With regard to the article headed "Gadgets unprotected" (8 April, Insurance Times) I would take issue with the statement: "The vast majority of household policies won' t offer extensive cover for items taken outside of the home".

The operative words are "won't offer", while acknowledging that the Hiscox high net worth policy gives this cover automatically, most insurers offer it as an optional extension.

In my experience the majority of householders take advantage of this.
