London P&I Club premiums rose by 27.5% on average in the financial year 2001-2002, according to the marine specialist.
The year saw 91 vessels entered into the club for P&I risks, including 48 new buildings.
"Following the unusually high level of claims in 2000/1, 2001/2 reverted to a more moderate level," the club said. "The current level of outstanding claims for the year is running 20% lower than for the previous year," it added.
